Project - Web Evaluation Exercise1

Web Evaluation Exercise

Because anyone can publish on the Web, it is important to be able to distinguish between reliable and unreliable websites.

Rex London
Source : Rex Londen website

1. Who is responsible for creating the website?
Team Rex - (It started with two men, according to the website.)
Rex London (2018) In 1981, on a simple market stall in London’s Portobello Market, two men were selling jumpers, jeans, and handmade candles. They teamed up to form Rex International Ltd, and evolved into a wholesaler throughout the 1990s, hunting for wonders in Asia and supplying The Body Shop, Habitat, and other high street shops in the UK
2. When was this website created?

In 2018, to reflect our development from an online gift shop
(but they were active outside the website before 2018)

Rex London (2018) In 2003, in an effort to stand out from the crowd, the decision was made to start creating original designs and collections. The first product was the Original Jumbo Bag, which has since gone on to become a classic best-seller.
The popularity of these products continued to grow and so, in 2005, dotcomgiftshop was formed - an online-only channel that allowed us to sell directly to the public. Since then, we have continued to build a reputation as a frontrunner in British design-led giftware.
In 2018, to reflect our development from simply an online gift shop to a company renowned for its design credentials, and to better align ourselves with the wholesale arm of the business, we changed our name to Rex London.

3. What are the strengths of this website?
They said the Rex Londen style is  fun, imaginative, and a little bit retro. I could also see the style and concept on the website. And Rex London seems to have tried to express their identity in various ways. As shown in the picture below, they also expressed their brands in various collections. Therefore, I think these are the strength of this website.

2. Subject Area : Digital Design
My subject area is digital design. I think digital design belongs to a very wide range of design. Through this project, I am going to do a work that can show the characteristics of digital design simply.

3. Project Title :

Digital of children's scribble

4. Project Arms and Objectives :

To create a stationary pack for young children
(notebook, sketchbook, pencil cases and pencil)

Theme: Digitized drwings made by children, Graffiti.

To research branding

To create 2-4 design boards including colour palette, typography, mock-up of design

Children enjoy painting their own paintings, scribbles on the walls of their homes, toys, and objects. Through this project, I am going to digitize it so that it can be a brand and a product. Therefore, It can show that any drawing can be digital design. This product will probably be targeted by children or their parents. In addition, various people who want to digitize their paintings and drawings can be targeted for this project. They can see their paintings become products themselves. For example, tey can gift-wrap a gift on a stationery set.

5. Software
1. adobe illustrator
2. adobe photoshop
3. Procreate

6. Activities Checklist
The things below will have to be considered in my work.

Additional documents you may require will be model release forms and risk assessments.

- Conducting Interviews or any of the following:
- Making audio or video recordings of identifiable people
- Collection storage and use of personal data about identifiable living people
- Observation of adult human behaviour involving identifiable individuals
- Using archived personal data in which living individuals are identifiable.

- Observing, interacting or otherwise working with children (under the age of 18) and/or vulnerable adults

- Researching into activities that have a risk of personal injury to the participants

- Supporting innovation that might impact on human behaviour. e.g. Behavioural studies and/or activities which may pose a physical risk to other people not directly participating in the research

- Activities which may cause a risk to the environment

- Researching activities that are concerned with the following ‘sensitive research’ areas: illegal activities, including the collection of source data e.g.crime statistics, or access to websites normally prohibited by university servers., or extremism and radicalisation

- Research/project activity that may be culturally sensitive.  i.e. use of images, language, materials or resources that could impact negatively on other

Project - Testing Software

Testing Software choices for my project

In this project, I will digitize children's graffiti.

1. adobe photoshop

Photoshop is raster-based and uses pixels to create images. Photoshop is designed for editing and creating photos or raster-based art. Abhisheck K (2019)

In this project, I will digitize children's graffiti pictures. Before digitizing, photoshop will be used to collect and transform the collected photos.

2. adobe illustrator

Illustrator works off vectors, these are points used to create perfectly smooth lines. This program is for creating and editing vector-based work such as graphics, logos, and other design elements. Vectors are scalable images that can be sized as small or as large are you need them to be, but look the same when it comes to clarity and resolution. Abhisheck K (2019)

Illustrators have this feature, illustrators can be more clear than Photoshop when digitizing children's graffiti. Photoshop and illustrators have different strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, I will use both illustrator and Photoshop in this work.

3. Procreate app (iPad)

Project - Target Market (Google Forms)

I learned about target marketing through a research and week4 study in digital design class. I uploaded a target marketing research on the previous posting.

Indeed, When I made Google form, I always tried to remember the following questions that I learned in class.

- What is a Target Market?

- How is your Target Market?
- Why is it important as a designer?
- How should this affect your product/design?
- What happens if you do not understand your target market?

Based on them, I tried to create a Google form.

Google Forms

<Target market and customer survey about children's stationery set>

1. What's your age range?
- 0-10
- 11-17
- 18-29
- 30-39
- 40-50
- 50+

2. Do you have children? If you don't have a child, do you have a younger brother or sister (about 1-10years old)?
- Yes, I have a child.
- Yes, I have a youger brother or sister (about 1-10 years old)
- No, I do not have both

3. Have you ever bought a children's stationery set?  (ex: notebook, sketchbook, pencil cases and pencil)
- Yes
- No

4. Why did you buy a children's stationery before?
- Because I need it
- To pressnet as a gift
- I've never bought a children's stationery.
- Other

5. What is the most important thing when you buy a children's stationery?
- Beauty
- Usefulness
- Componets
- Price
- Other

6. What was your satisfaction or like when you bought the children's phrase?

7. What did you regret or dislike when you bought the children's phrase?

.....

Google Form was one of the forms that made it easy to ask target of the project opinions and responses. Although I couldn't collect many opinions from my target audience, this helped me with my work. I was also able to check my work in the process of producing these questions.

Project - Research Target Market

What is the Target Market?

According to the reference and self study, one of the most important things in working is to consider target marketing well. There is a reference to it below:

Given the current state of the economy, having a well-defined target market is more important than ever. No one can afford to target everyone. Small businesses can effectively compete with large companies by targeting a niche market.

Many businesses say they target "anyone interested in my services.

Targeting a specific market does not mean that you are excluding people who do not fit your criteria. Rather, target marketing allows you to focus your marketing dollars and brand message on a specific market that is more likely to buy from you than other markets. Mandy P (n.d)

Therefore, I considered the target of my project before I started working.

Who is my Target Market?

Why is it imprtants as designer?
How should this affect your prodict/design?
What happens if you do not understand your target market?

Project - Prototype

What is the PROTOTYPE?

A prototype is a draft version or mini version of my work. Through this, I can explore my ideas and design will proceed. It is essentially a mini version that I can test my ideas on. Therefore, this should be a mockup of the final work.

First, children's scribbles are changed to digital drawing using Photoshop and illustrations. The original image is digitized and modified to produce wrappers and fabrics. Digitalized scribbles offers a wide range of backgrounds.

After the prototype, my plan:
I should also get feedback on these ideas from my target market. Therefore I will research my target marketing and use Survey monkey or Google Forms for feedback.

Project - Introduction to project with Artist Research

Ideas

I plan to make a pattern using kid scribble. This pattern can be used as a fabric, wrapping paper or pattern of stationeryThrough this project, we can show that any painting can be a digital design.

Artist / Designer

Ruth Oosterman is an artist from Canada. She creates watercolour paintings with her child. Firstly, her child draw sketches independently with an ink pen. And then, she paints watercolors on top of the ink pen drawing.

I try to work quickly and let imagination and play take root into the painting rather than taking it too seriously, this way I can encourage Eve’s contribution without making it to ‘grownup,’ ” writes the self-taught artist. “As Pablo Picasso said it can take ‘but a lifetime to paint like a child.’ I feel so blessed that my daughter can remind me once again what it is to paint like a child by letting me see through her eyes.

Project - Initial Ideas & Development - SMART

Initial Ideas & Development

1. SMART?
A great idea and this idea needs to be SMART

S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Attainable, agreed upon, achieable, acceptable
R - Relevant, reasonable, realistic
T - Time-bound, time-bound, timely

2. SMART project Idea
For this project I will create a stationery design for kids. I plan to make a stationery package design with children's graffiti. children scribble on walls, their toys, and anywhere in the house. I want to make the graffiti with their statement. Such as your notebook, sketchbook, pencil cases, and pencil.
I did research to make sure the idea was actually be achieved. In reality, the design is difficult because it has so many different forms and shape and size. So, I will create a pattern. It will be designed with their graffiti. I plan to make children's graffiti into anything such as wrapping paper, fabric. I will use Adobe Photoshop and Illustration to show the image of the products. This project will be completed in three weeks and the final Design boards or website will contain floor plans, software, design concept etc.

Packaging design - Presentation

Packaging design - Photo frame cereal box

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The project is about a food packaging. I chose organic cereal as my product. A number of people chose a organic product. The reason is that they look for organic product for health and the environment. So I wanted to give not only the environment but also fun by adding elements that can be recycled through this design.

BRAND STORY

My brand story is to make people more enjoyable and remember it with cereal box. Indeed, the brand shows an image of thinking about the environment. Since the design of the photo frame must show the characteristics of the product, I tried to design it using the elements of the product as much as possible.

Packaging design - Idea Sketch

SOFTWARE

1. Adobe Photoshop - using for working with pictures.
2. Adobe Photoshop - using for working with typography, color, illustration.
3. Procreate APP - using for working with hand drawing

COLOR PALETTES

<Main two points>
1. Choose a color that can represent natural elements for organic cereal or snacks.
2. Choose a color that gives a number of people a warm and right feeling.
3. Choose a color that can decorate a house and room if it is used as a photo frame.

IDEA SKETCH

<Main two points>
1.  I wanted to make a design that can easy to shows what product is in there.
2.  I wanted to make an interesting and fun design for children.

I thought about what could represent these two points.

This is a picture on the wall of my room. I took pictures and put them in my room to remember the memories. Specially, when I was young, there were more pictures in home such as living room on the TV, on the table, in the kitchen, etc. Most people might be like me. So I decided to design a package about the form of picture frame.

I will design a cereal box that looks like a picture frame. It is also transparent in the middle, so when you buy this cereal box, you can see what the cereal looks like inside.

(This package design will be with hand drawing to show organic and natural appearance.)

Packaging design - Plan, Research

PACKAGING DESIGN

I am interested in and like kids graphics and illustrations. So I wanted to re-design a food product about that.

I think that some food for children should be liked parents and children both. It is also right target marketing. Therefore I tried to make a packaging design for both parents and children who are consumers.
Firstly, I want to make a design that can easy to shows what product is in there.
Secondly, I want to make an interesting and fun design for children.
Thirdly, I want to make a design that can recycled or kept continuously.

I think this is one of the best example for my packaging design.
This package design show the characteristics of the chewing gum well.

 RESEARCH

Before started idea sketching, I researched about kid's snacks and food packaging design. Through research, I can see the snacks package designs are mostly colorful and illustrious.

In addition, targets for this package design are parents and children. Therefore i tried to research the package design that would satisfy them.

I found something interesting in common in organic package design through research.

Organic food packaging is practical, transportable, and transparent in its material usage with consumers (http://thepackaginginsider.com/faqs-organic-food-packaging/)

The reason why I found organic product package design interesting is because the following are the cases.

Firstly, I want to make a design that can easy to shows what product is in there.
Secondly, I want to make an interesting and fun design for children.
Thirdly, I want to make a design that can recycled or kept continuously.

Packaging design_Target market research

Target market

Target marketing means marketing for consumers or users of a product.

I think it is the most important to know these tow points.

Firstly, Who are your target costumers?
For example, target marketing depends on men or women, age and also occupation.
Therefore, we have to think about where and what category the target belong to in there.

Secondly, Why this costumer choose and find this product?
We need to consider why consumers choose a product and design the package

If you do not consider these points, it is difficult to succeed in marketing of your product.
